Hundreds celebrate Christmas by taking a festive plunge into the chilly waters of the North Sea in Suffolk.
On Christmas Day, more than 600 individuals braved the icy waters of Felixstowe Beach in Suffolk, dressed in festive costumes, for an annual event that has been a tradition for 19 years. The daring participants gathered to raise funds for St Elizabeth Hospice.
Among the courageous dippers was 10-year-old Delilah
Reynolds, who shared her experience, saying, “I was a bit scared before taking
the plunge, but it turned out to be a lot of fun! The water was cold, but the
sight of so many people in their Christmas outfits made it really enjoyable. I
hope today's efforts contribute to the well-being of everyone the hospice cares
for.”
Delilah's grandfather, David, joined her in the dip and
expressed his joy, stating, “I am thrilled that Delilah and I could participate
in the Christmas Day Dip together for St Elizabeth Hospice; it's something I've
wanted to do for years. The morning marked a fantastic start to our Christmas
Day, filled with community spirit and a delightful festive atmosphere. The dip
is an excellent way to support the hospice’s services, and I encourage everyone
to give it a try if they're up for a challenge!”
Providing complimentary care to more than 4,000 patients and
their families across East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth, and Waveney, St Elizabeth
Hospice remains dedicated to its mission.
Brandon Orton, the Events and Challenges Fundraiser at St
Elizabeth Hospice, expressed gratitude, stating, “A heartfelt congratulations
and thank you to all the wonderful participants who contributed to the success
of this year’s Christmas Day Dip. Special appreciation is extended to the
supporters and volunteers whose efforts made the event possible, creating a
wonderfully festive atmosphere. A big thank you as well to Sam Phillips from
Dare to Dip for his invaluable support.”
