On December 21, in Prague, a 24-year-old Czech student tragically took the life of his father before perpetrating a horrific act at his university. The assailant claimed the lives of 14 individuals and left 25 others injured, marking this incident as the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the Czech Republic.
In response to this heartbreaking event, the government has
declared December 23 as a national day of mourning. This decision was reached
during a special cabinet meeting, in collaboration with President Petr Pavel,
as a solemn tribute to the victims of this senseless tragedy.

emphasizing the unjustifiable loss of numerous young lives. He expressed
heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and everyone affected by

In response to the shooting at the Charles University
building in downtown Prague, where a significant arsenal of weapons was
discovered, law enforcement had received earlier information. This tip-off
indicated that the suspect, hailing from the Kladno region outside the capital,
was likely en route to Prague with intentions of self-harm.
