Shooter claims 14 lives in an unprecedented assault at a Prague university.

On December 21, in Prague, a 24-year-old Czech student tragically took the life of his father before perpetrating a horrific act at his university. The assailant claimed the lives of 14 individuals and left 25 others injured, marking this incident as the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the Czech Republic.

In response to this heartbreaking event, the government has declared December 23 as a national day of mourning. This decision was reached during a special cabinet meeting, in collaboration with President Petr Pavel, as a solemn tribute to the victims of this senseless tragedy.

Pavel conveyed a profound mix of sorrow and frustration, emphasizing the unjustifiable loss of numerous young lives. He expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and everyone affected by this tragic event, underscoring its status as the most grievous incident in the history of the Czech Republic.

In response to the shooting at the Charles University building in downtown Prague, where a significant arsenal of weapons was discovered, law enforcement had received earlier information. This tip-off indicated that the suspect, hailing from the Kladno region outside the capital, was likely en route to Prague with intentions of self-harm.
