American Airlines introduces updates to its 2024 elite status program, featuring enhanced rewards choices and additional benefits.
American Airlines is set to roll out changes to its AAdvantage loyalty program throughout 2024, bringing forth new perks for members across various status levels. The updates include additional benefits for both entry-level and higher-level status members, along with exclusive privileges for AAdvantage members.
Loyalty Point Rewards
One notable change in Loyalty Point Rewards is the
introduction of a fresh reward option allowing members to earn more Loyalty
Points at specific point milestones. Effective March 1, 2024, AAdvantage
members can select bonus Loyalty Points at the following reward levels:
- 15,000
Loyalty Points: 1,000 Bonus Loyalty Points
- 175,000
Loyalty Points: 5,000 Bonus Loyalty Points
- 250,000
Loyalty Points: 15,000 Bonus Loyalty Points (option available twice)
Moreover, members reaching the 175,000-Loyalty-Point level
will no longer have the option to choose a 15% award rebate as their reward.
Additional AAdvantage Member Benefits
New benefits are in store for AAdvantage members, regardless
of their elite status. Commencing later in January 2024, members will have the
ability to cancel Basic Economy tickets directly booked with American Airlines,
receiving a partial Trip Credit after a $99 fee. Starting March 1, 2024,
same-day standby on an earlier eligible American Airlines flight will be
introduced.
Further enhancements exclusive to AAdvantage members will be
implemented later in 2024, including an extension of Trip Credit expiration to
18 months (6 months longer than before), the option to purchase single-visit
Admirals Club and Flagship Lounge passes, and the ability to put a flight on
hold for up to 24 hours for free.
Upgrades and Other Features
Changes to upgrades will allow members to earn miles and
Loyalty Points when paying for upgrades with cash, and the redemption of miles
for upgrades with select partner airlines. Additionally, members will soon be
able to request systemwide upgrades online.
While First Class seats are being removed from international
flights, AAdvantage Platinum Pro elite members or higher will have the option
to use miles for the Flagship First Dining experience at Dallas-Fort Worth and
Miami airports, although the launch date remains undisclosed.
Accessing Benefits without Elite Status
For those not pursuing elite status, an instant upgrade to
the travel experience is possible by obtaining a co-branded American Airlines
credit card. The AAdvantage® Aviator® Red World Elite Mastercard® offers perks
such as preferred boarding (Group 5), a free first checked bag for up to four
people, annual statement credits for in-flight Wi-Fi purchases, and a 25%
rebate on in-flight food and beverage expenses.
