Scorsese series casts 5 Israeli actors as Jesus, other Christian saints
Actors are also being cast in roles such as Mary Magdalene and King Herod for a highly anticipated eight-part TV docudrama about Christian history, currently being filmed in Morocco.
At least five Israeli actors will feature in Martin
Scorsese's upcoming series, which focuses on significant figures in Christian
history, according to recent reports.
Titled “Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints,” this
eight-part miniseries is hosted, narrated, and produced by the acclaimed
American director. It will reportedly include performances by Israelis Adva
Levy, Dar Zuzovsky, Ariel Yagen, Ido Katzir, and Amitai Kedar.
The Kan public broadcaster announced on Wednesday that
29-year-old Tel Aviv native Adva Levy had joined the cast. The involvement of
the other four actors has been reported by various media outlets over the past
week. The project, first announced in March, will debut its first four episodes
on the Fox Nation streaming service on November 16, with the remaining episodes
airing in May 2025.
“The Saints” will chronicle the journeys to sainthood of
various historical figures, including John the Baptist, Francis of Assisi, and
Joan of Arc. The series is inspired by Shusaku Endo's book "A Life of
Jesus."
